The error dialogue is as follows:
You cannot initiate a Remote Desktop Connection because the Windows logon
software on the remote computer has been replaced by incompatible software
C:\WINDOWS\System32\awgina.dll.

To correct this problem, please have the administrator of the remote
computer contact the program vendor that is compatible with Windows.

Currently this computer is running Windows XP Pro, but it is most likely an
upgrade from a Windows 98 computer that had PC Anywhere installed on it
previously. I tried to install the Remote Desktop Client, but it stated that
it had it a built in version already installed (however, this could just have
been the software that allows the computer to remote to other computers, not
the software that allows computers to connect to it.)

What I'm trying to do is re-install whatever software is needed to be able
to remote into this computer with the Remote Desktop Client. Is there a file
on the XP install disk or that I can download from Microsoft? I really do
not want to reformat or reinstall this computer.

Hi

MSGina.dll have been overrided by awgina.dll

To undo this:

Manual edit: Start/Run --> Regedit

and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon.

In the right pane, remove the entry for GinaDLL.

Or run the following script and it will do it for you:

Restore the Welcome Screen - Gina.Dll Error (Line 45)
